MUSIC

After 25 years, I’m finally releasing new music for myself. I’ve written over 250 songs—ranging from children’s music and musical theater to pop and experimental—but it was time to step back into the recording process.

At first, I wasn’t sure about the style or message, but I chose to embrace my company’s name, Multicultural Arts, by creating No Borders, Just Music—a blend of dance-pop, reggaetón, salsa, ballads, musical theater, and praise and worship.

The lyrics reflect my journey—celebrating love, friendship, and fatherhood while also confronting loss, solitude, depression, and resilience. Music is a diary we all share.

This album also challenged me vocally, and I’m grateful to Mr. Hall for his guidance—including his playful suggestion of the “Cher Effect.” This experience was for me. In the end, it was all about having fun.

Above all, this journey has been pure joy.

MUSIC

The inspiration behind my song, "¡Puerto Rico No Se Vende!"

"El Apagón—Aquí Vive Gente"

Bad Bunny's "El Apagón—Aquí Vive Gente" was my inspiration. The video is both a music video and a political statement, highlighting Puerto Rico’s struggles with power outages, gentrification, and displacement. The song celebrates Puerto Rican pride while criticizing the island’s failing infrastructure and the effects of U.S. policies like Act 22, which allow wealthy outsiders to push out locals. Midway, the video shifts to a short documentary by journalist Bianca Graulau, exposing how native Puerto Ricans are being forced from their homes due to real estate speculation and government neglect. It’s a bold mix of music, activism, and journalism, reinforcing Bad Bunny’s advocacy for his people.

"¡Puerto Rico No Se Vende!"

"¡Puerto Rico No Se Vende!" is an anthem of resistance against corporate greed, condemning the displacement of Puerto Ricans for luxury developments. It blends frustration over economic exploitation and disasters with a celebration of the island’s resilience. The chorus declares that Puerto Rico belongs to its people, the verses highlight their struggles, the pre-chorus reinforces their unbreakable spirit, the bridge calls for unity, and the outro serves as a defiant battle cry against foreign control. Ultimately, it’s a powerful call for self-determination and cultural pride.

I thank my niece Yaitza for sending me videos of what’s happening in Puerto Rico. As a Nuyorican, I stand in solidarity with my Boricua brothers and sisters to fight against these corporations and proudly declare: ¡Puerto Rico No Se Vende!

"What Do You See?"

This song is personal. It’s about identity, exclusion, and the struggle to belong.

I’ve fought for unity, built bridges, and stood up for others, only to be excluded for my skin tone or perceived privilege. Saint Louis is beautiful yet deeply segregated, and division exists even within communities of color.

As a light-skinned Latino, I’ve been told I don’t understand discrimination, labeled “not brown enough” or “too privileged,” while being excluded from spaces I’ve worked to uplift. I wrote this song to address that contradiction. When I hear, “We do business with people of color,” I wonder, Who do you mean? Where do I fit in?

What Do You See? questions colorism in our POC community and gatekeeping, urging us to look beyond skin tone and focus on what unites us.

Song, Our Beloved Son, Isaiah

"Our Beloved Son, Isaiah" is a song I wrote to celebrate my son Isaiah on his 19th birthday. The track also features the voice of his father, Bart Baker. The accompanying video showcases a collection of photos of Isaiah throughout the years.

Rich Man’s Frug

January, 2025

I was honored to choreograph Rich Man’s Frug for a musical revue at Saint Joseph Academy. Choreographed by Bob Fosse for the 1969 film Sweet Charity, this iconic jazz sequence is known for its sharp, angular movements and cool, detached attitude. Set in a nightclub, the number features three sections: The Aloof, with slow, robotic movements; The Heavyweight, an upbeat, punchy segment; and The Big Finish, a dramatic, jazz-go-go fusion. Fosse’s signature style, including isolated movements, inward-turned knees, and internalized energy, makes the choreography both visually striking and emotionally charged, influencing dance and pop culture for years.

Six: The Musical Jr. edition

March, 2025

I am excited to be choreographing Six: The Musical Junior for Hazelwood East High School, and we have some incredible queens in the lead roles! This will be my second year choreographing for the performing arts department. Last year, I had the pleasure of choreographing Sister Act Junior.

Six: The Musical is about the six wives of Henry VIII, reimagined as modern pop stars, each taking the spotlight to share her story. The show transforms history into an electrifying concert where the queens reclaim their narratives, blending humor, heartbreak, and empowerment through powerful music and dynamic choreography.

The Junior edition of Six has been specially adapted for young performers, ensuring age-appropriate content while preserving the show’s energy and message. Some lyrics have been modified, and the music has been transposed slightly to accommodate teenage voices. Despite these adjustments, the heart of the musical remains the same: bold, fun, and full of attitude.

Bringing this production to life has been an incredible experience. The students are bringing so much passion and dedication to the stage, and I can’t wait for the audience to see their hard work pay off. This show is not just about history; it’s about resilience, individuality, and owning your story.
